Name the product formed when benzene diazonium salt is warmed with water – phenol compound is formed.

Name the product formed when benzene diazonium salt is warmed with water?

Diazonium salt is a group of organic compound with the formula [C6H5N2Cl] and it is sharing a common functional group R – N+ 2 X. Where R – aryl or alkyl. and x – inorganic or organic anion. sucha as halogen. it is a salt of diazonium cation and chloride.

When solution of benzene diazonium chloride [C6H5N2]Cl is warm with water then the diazonium ion is directly react with water in the solution. according to this, as a result compound phenol C6H5OH is formed along with N2 nitrogen gas and HCl. and the reaction is following,

C6H5N2Cl + H2O ————> C6H5OH + N2 + HCl

This reaction gives, diazonium salt is replaced by -OH compound it mean, phenol compound [C6H5OH] as a final product along with N2 gas and HCl is formed.

therefore, phenol as a product is formed when benzene diazonium salt is warmed with water.

Benzene diazonium chloride reaction:

When phenol is react with benzene diazonium chloride and then it make azo component, it is look like as yellow product, this is called yellow azo dyes.

When aniline is directly reacted with benzene diazonium chloride and with maintain pH > 7. then it make an azo Component or azo dye.

When beta nephthol (napthelene + alcohol = beta nephthol) is react with benzene diazonium chloride then it make azo component. this is called red colour azo dyes.
